21 members signed up for the third mixed american tournament of 2024 and competed for the Mixed Doubles Shield and the customary Taittinger champagne.

There was a £2 charge to cover the cost of an appetising spread produced by Caroline Parker and Helen Blackwood.

Players were split into three groups and the tournament consisted of mixed doubles matches of 6 games, organised so that where possible each match played was with a different partner against a pair not played before. The highest scoring men and women from each group together with the next highest scoring man and lady across all the groups went forward to the semi final stage.

At the end of the group stage, Caroline Joy Sally and Sue were the highest scoring ladies with Adam Dan John and Will the highest scoring men.

Pairings were then drawn out of a hat with Joy and Will playing Sue and Dan in the first semi-final and Caroline and John playing Sally and Adam in the second.

The semi final and final were played as 21 point tie breaks.

Sue and Dan edged past Joy and Will 22-20 in the first semi-final and Caroline and John beat Sally and Adam 21-10 in the second.

In the final, Sue and Dan came out on top to beat Caroline and John 21-18 in a closely contested final to claim the Mixed Doubles Shield and their bottle of Taittinger champagne. Caroline and John each received a tube of balls as runners up.

The next tournament will be held on Sunday 6th April 2025.
